June is usually when I take the family for the the UK for our annual visit. It also proved to be rather busy with two workshops on opposite sides of the world.
The first workshop on Global Production Networks in Asia, co-organised by City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University and GPN@NUS. It was fairly intensive over the two days with many questions and focused suggestions after each paper presented. But there were also lots of good food of course, in typical Hong Kong fashion!
In mid-June, I then attended a book workshop in Oxford, organised for authors of a forthcoming book on ‘International Financial Centres after the Global Financial Crisis and Brexit’. The book will cover key financial centres and their changing roles in a the future global economy. Again, it was a fairly intensive 2-days with each of us presenting our draft chapters and getting specific questions and feedback for revisions. I also enjoyed meeting economic historians, economists and IPE scholars and learning from their perspective on financial centre development. I was particularly pleased to meet up with David Meyers. His research on Hong Kong financial centre provided much inspiration for my PhD and postdoc work. We are on a very tight schedule for this book. Hopefully I will have good news on this next year!
