First Editors meeting for new Finance & Space journal

We recently had our very first Editors meeting for Finance & Space! This is a new journal emerging from collaboration between the Global Network on Financial Geography (FinGeo) and the Regional Studies Association.

I am delighted to embark on this adventure with Dariusz Wójcik, David Bassens and Janelle Knox-Hayes as the team of founding editors. We are currently working on call for papers, online submission system, journal cover design… more news to come!

Inaugural meeting of Finance & Space editorial team (26th January 2023)

Here is some key information about the journal, with full details up on the official journal website once the system is ready.

Finance & Space focuses on diverse aspects of the spatial production of finance and the financial production of space. It will address some of the most profound processes and pressing challenges of our times, including digitization, neoliberalization, financialization, globalization and deglobalization, uneven development, inequality and lack of diversity, (in)security and geopolitics, the environmental crisis, and the role of finance in building more sustainable economies. While dedicated to a geographical imagination, the journal is founded on the belief that advancing our understanding of the changing finance-space nexus requires an interdisciplinary approach and heterodox thinking.

The distinctive purpose of Finance & Space is to connect insights across intellectual disciplines in a systematic and grounded way to understand how and why finance and space co-evolve, and their impacts on economy, society and the environment. The journal will publish contributions to theory, methodology, empirical studies, as well as research relevant to strategy and policymaking. It will promote a global coverage and diversity of research both in terms of authors and the subject matter. The journal will be online only, with articles published as soon as they emerge from the review and production process.

The journal will publish three types of works:

  • Full length original research articles (8,000 words excluding abstract, keywords, and references).
  • Commentaries focusing on recent developments in the subject area, including strategy and policy (2,000 words excluding abstract, keywords, and references).
  • Visualizations showing research-based innovative maps and other visualizations of the finance-space nexus (with accompanying text of up to 500 words).

All articles undergo rigorous peer review based on initial editor screening and anonymised refereeing by at least three independent referees. We anticipate the inaugural volume will be published online in 2024.
