During a recent research trip to Singapore in April, I was working with Dr Winston Chow and Dr Felicia Liu on our data centres project. While cramming in interviews with data centre stakeholders and team discussions during those two weeks, we also held a workshop on Green FinTech and Data Centres, based on our preliminary research findings.

Hosted by the Singapore Green Finance Centre, the workshop addressed the importance of data centres, and shared why going digital ≠ going green. We laid out the current landscape of sustainability awareness, commitment, and performance of data centres owners, investors, and clients in Singapore, and challenges specific to data centres in tropical environments. There was such a buzz at the workshop, with plenty of stimulating remarks, questions and insights from across data centres sector stakeholders (operators, investors, banks, government agencies, consultancies) during the breakout sessions.
We are continuing with online interviews and working on other presentations and publications, with a white paper on this topic planned for end of the year.
